BORDER MASS 2017
MISA FRONTERIZA 2017

The celebration of a mass on the US-MEXICO border by the three border dioceses of El Paso, Las Cruces, and Ciudad Juarez started in 1998 and was conducted at US-MEXICO Border fence in Anapra for 18 years. In 2016, the mass was moved to the Rio Grande canal nearby the Santa Fe Bridge.

In this time of high polarization around the immigration debate, discrimination, militarization of the border and a wide spread spirit of exclusion in our nation, the Border Mass continues to remind us, missionary disciples of Christ, that we are primarily called to live in communion.
There is no us and them, but one family of God.  Borders, in the spirit of the Eucharist, exist not to separate and divide us, but to identify and to produce collaboration between us.  Borders are where we encounter each other and create thriving communities in unity and in diversity.  Borders are places where we share each other’s journey.

When we celebrate this Border Mass here where El Paso meets Ciudad Juarez and the U.S. meets Mexico, we are proclaiming the Good News of an Eucharistic Border.

Please arrive as early as possible.  Mass starts at 10am.

MASS 2017
MISA FRONTERIZA 2017

La celebración de una misa en la frontera de MEXICO-EEUU por las tres diócesis fronterizas de El Paso, Las Cruces, y Ciudad Juárez empezó en el 1998 y fue celebrada en la malla en Anapra por 18 años. En el 2016, the mass was moved to the Rio Grande canal nearby the Santa Fe Bridge.

For Las Vegas, For the United States of America

Author of life,
Source and Creator,
Grant eternal rest
To the victims of the massacre in Las Vegas,
All those whose lives were cut off by violence,
In a rampage of aggression beyond understanding,
May their souls be a living blessing in our midst.
May they rest in peace.

God of justice and mercy,
Send healing to those wounded in this assault.
Over five hundred people who were struck by brutality.
Remember all the survivors of this attack,
Witnesses of shock, horror and dismay.
Ease their suffering and release their trauma
So that they recover lives of joy and wonder.
Grant them Your shelter and solace,
Blessing and renewal.
Grant them endurance to survive,
Strength to rebuild,
Faith to mourn,
And courage to heal.

How much more blood will be spilled?
When will sanity return?
When will our nation, our world, confront this scourge of violence?
God of love and shelter,
Remember the families and friends
Of all the dead and the wounded,
In Las Vegas and throughout the United States,
Remember them with comfort and consolation.
Grant them Your protection,
Your wholeness and healing.
Heavenly Guide,
Put an end to anger, hatred and fear
And lead us to a time when
No one will suffer at the hand of another,
Speedily, in our day.

Bishops Conference President Calls For Prayers, Care For Others After Tragic Shooting In Las Vegas

October 2, 2017
WASHINGTON—On October 2, Cardinal Daniel N. DiNardo, Archbishop of Galveston-Houston, and President of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB), expressed "deep grief" after a deadly mass shooting in Las Vegas.
The full text of the statement follows:
"We woke this morning and learned of yet another night filled with unspeakable terror, this time in the city of Las Vegas, and by all accounts, the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history. My heart and my prayers, and those of my brother bishops and all the members of the Church, go out to the victims of this tragedy and to the city of Las Vegas. At this time, we need to pray and to take care of those who are suffering.  In the end, the only response is to do good – for no matter what the darkness, it will never overcome the light. May the Lord of all gentleness surround all those who are suffering from this evil, and for those who have been killed we pray, eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them."
