The El Paso Choral Society will present Handel’s Messiah with orchestra and professional soloists at the Abraham Chavez Theatre on Saturday, December 12 at 7:30 PM. The performance will also feature Finzi’s Magnificat and Vivaldi’s Winter Concerto.
Prentice Loftin, EPCS Music Director, will conduct. The orchestra concertmaster will be Dr. Stephanie Meyers. The soloists will be Natanya Washer, soprano; Stephanie Sanchez, alto; Hugo Vera, tenor; and Levi Hernandez, bass. All soloists are native El Pasoans with careers as professional singers.
The El Paso Chorale has been performing the major choral/orchestral works in El Paso for over 70 years. Its repertoire includes the Requiems by Mozart, Verdi, and Durufle, Beethoven’s Ninth, Missa Somemnes, M ass in C, Mendelssohn’s Elijah, Haydn’s Creation, Poulenc Gloria, and Bach’s St. John Passion. The El Paso Chamber Choir was formed in 1995 and became the professional core group of singers for the larger performances by the Chorale. The Chamber Choir was also the opera chorus in 27 opera productions with El Paso Opera.
