The blessed Juan Diego Mission was established by Bishop Raymundo Peña on June 28, 1990. It was declared a parish on August 15, 1992 covering over 100 miles in the east El Paso County. On August 9, 2002, Bishop Armando X Ochoa joined the pastor and parishioners in celebrating the 10th anniversary of the parish. During the anniversary, bishop Ochoa read a decree officially changing the name of the parish to San Juan Diego. Juan Diego was canonized by pope John Paul II on July 30 , 2002 in Mexico City
