This Parish was started by the famous missionary, Fr. Carlos Pinto, S. J. who served as the first pastor. The church was blessed at the same time as Sacred Heart church in 1893. The Jesuit Fathers served as pastors of the church for 67 years, until 1959. In 1914 when El Paso was erected a Diocese, Immaculate Conception was named "provisional" Cathedral until St. Patrick's Cathedral could be built. Therefore, Immaculate Conception carries the title "Pro-Cathedral"
