Was established in 1875. Formerly, Our lady of Guadalupe until 1945 when this parish was renamed. On October 15, 1683 a representative of the Jumano indians from La Junta, Persidio; Juan Zabaleta, appealed to the Spanish Governor for missionaries. As a result, Franciscans Fray Nicolas Lopez, Fray Juan Zabaleta and Fray Antonio Acevedo set out the La Junta region on December 1, 1683. They built other missions with the help of seven tribes of the area. These missions include: La Navidad in Las Cruces, San Antonio de los Julimes, Santa Maria la Redonda, San Pedro Alcantara, San Cristobal, Presidio de Norte de la Junta and Apostol Santiago.
St. Mary's has 340 registered families Sr. Margie Silguero, is the administrator & parish life coordinator for St. Mary's in Marfa, St. Joseph church in Fort Davis, and Sacred Heart in Valentine. Sr. Luz Doñes, assistant
