The ministry fosters continued spiritual growth for the community, empowering them to live in harmony with both their Catholic and Native Spirituality. Programs: Elders: My work with the elders of the tribe takes me to the elder’s center located on the reservation to visit with the elders of the tribe. I visit with elders that are ill or homebound. All Souls: During the month of November we gather to pray, celebrate and honor the lives of the tribes departed ancestors. We have an annual service that brings people to construct an altar for their departed ancestors. Youth: The program provides activities that focus on youths’ moral values, self-esteem, self-respect and teamwork. Lessons of faith are included. Feast: The people of Ysleta del Sur Pueblo celebrate ten feasts throughout the year and observe and participate in others. The largest feast is the feast of St. Anthony of Padua, the Patron saint of the tribe. The ministry helps to make preparations with the Pueblo for the celebration of feast days. Kateri Circle: The Kateri Circle is a group that meets weekly to pray, study and reflect on the Sunday scriptures. Our Kateri Circle is part of the National Tekakwitha Conference that exists to promote and pray for the Canonization of Blessed Kateri Tekakwitha. We currently have two groups. Lenten: Formation and Spiritual growth opportunities are given to the people of the Pueblo during the Lenten period. We are currently entering into the second part of the Disciples in Mission Lenten program. Advent: During the month of December we celebrate the wonderful tradition of the “Posada”.
